The Graph of the Week isTotal Consumer Credit, as calculated by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. This graph shows seasonally adjusted billions of dollars, over the time period of January, 1980 through March 2012.
While this latest recession was often referred to as the "Delveraging of America" you can see that the downward trend, which started in August 2008 after reaching a peak of $2.581 Trillion, actually only lasted for two years, for the total started increasing again after reaching a lowpoint of $2.393 Trillion in Septembert, 2010.
